POULTON ARCHAEOLOGICAL WEEKEND
During the weekend of the 2/3rd of August, six members of the public spent the Saturday/Sunday at the Poulton site learning archaeological techniques. They started at 9am on Saturday with a talk by the Site Director Mike Emery. Then they were shown the basics of Geophysics by Alan Brown, the site geophysicist. After learning troweling they were shown the chapel skeletal remains which were explained by Ray Carpenter, the site expert on human bones. More troweling ended the first day. On Sunday a trip to see the fish ponds associated with the Cistercian Monastery started their morning. Later they were shown the techniques of drawing/planning and levelling by Mike Emery and Ken Owen. More work on the site ended the weekend. For the staff of the Poulton Research Project and the students it was a very enjoyable and rewarding weekend. The next archaeological weekend is the 23rd/24th August."
