Time Team comes to Poulton !

The Time Team were at Poulton from the 20th to the 22nd of June to film an episode for the well-known Channel 4 programme. They were searching for the 'lost' Abbey of Poulton, which some people believed was buried under the remains of Poulton Hall.  Limited excavations in 1998 had been unable to resolve the mystery, and everyone was hoping that Time Team's experts could help to locate the precise location of the Abbey, which was founded by 1153 but abandoned early in the 13th century.

Click here for a selection of photos from Time Team's visit, or view the Poulton Project Gazette. The Time Team artist, Victor Ambrus, left us a souvenir cartoon signed by all Time Team members.

So what did they find ?  You'll have to wait until the Time Team episode featuring Poulton is broadcast on April 1st 2007 ! Or alternatively, why not join us at Poulton as a volunteer or as a Friend of Poulton, and help us to make more discoveries at this fascinating archaeological site.
