Floods, Winter 2009.

The river plain around Poulton often floods but this year has been exceptional. A few photos to show the extent of the flooding.

Those of you familiar with the site may struggle to recognise parts of it. The most recent pictures are at the top !

^ November 2009: Looking SSE. The tent is to the right and the chapel trench is out of shot to the left. Once you get half way down the slope over the hedge, you're in water.

^ November 2009: Looking SW towards the Poulton brook and the fishponds. Oh, and this is roughly where Timeteam suggested the abbey might have been!

^ November 2009: Looking SE. The trees in the middle distance mark the line of the Poulton brook. Beyond was a field of maize 'til a month ago!

^ November 2009: Looking SSE. Our famous oak tree is just above the waterline!
