27-May-2008: Ring Ditch 2

As hoped (expected?) we have uncovered a second ring ditch. It is just south of the earlier ditch but does not overlap. It is very different to the first but appears to be from the same era (Bronze Age). So far we have only removed the topsoil but the extent and shape of this second ring ditch is very clear. We will post more details and pictures as we get them.

24-July-2008: Ring Ditch 3

To our surprise,  we have uncovered a third ring ditch. It is just south-east of ring ditch 2 and intersects it (that is, it is younger). This picture also gives a better impression of ring ditch 2.

Well, this is where the geophysics says it is!

Mike watches very carefully - and obeys the Health and Safety rules!

Now that's what we call a post hole! (Each stripe on the ranging rods is 0.5m)

Revealed in all its glory. Now the real archaeology begins!

Cleans up well! (And the ring ditches!)
